LIFE in the BIG CITY ?
"Silas swar that afore too many more winters he would be gone beaver, what war left of his old bones bleaching in the sun by the Seedskadee. Tarnation, this child war near-bout 30 by his last count! His broke leg war healed up, 'tho he would never run agin with the bone set all crooked like that. Ol' ephraim had tooken a hunk outun his behindt. And that danged arrerhead in his shoulder still gave him fits in the winter. He still had his har, though Bug's Boys had tried many times ter raise it. But this ol' coon war the lucky one, he reckoned. His last two trapping partners war gone under, sculped and then skint alive whilst tied ter a stake by the Rees. Last two seasons, Rapahos stol all his cached plews, and he had ter et his favrit hos this past winter jest ter survive. Given his meager remaining foofaraw he really needed ter make it ter the rondevu this spring. But he still owed Jeb at the fort $10 fer his saddle. At this rate, he would never git out of the Company's debt and become a free trapper afore it became time fer him ter go over the last divide. Worst of all, jest what he had feared most had come ter pass. The Rockies had gotten just too danged crowded. Why, today a body could not ride fer more than ten mile without coming acrosst another new family's homestead! But still in all, Silas reflected that he had made the right decision that spring day back in Virginny, when he hyared bout the mountain men and the shinin mountains away out west. Life in the big city would sartin shar have been too danged hard ter take! May yor pack be full of plews, yor trails free of griz, watch yor topknot, and I will watch mine! WAGH, that shines some!" |

WAR of 1812 SOLDIER (This War of 1812 impressionist at a Civil War re-enactment posing in front of a white tent for a clear background made a nice photo, but was further processed to remove all of the background and a "Graphic Pen" filter applied for a pen and ink drawing look.) Order Image |
The MUZZLELOADER (The background behind this mountain man re-enactor was removed and a "Graphic Pen" filter applied for an artistic "pen & ink" drawing effect.) Order Image |

MIDWEST BARN (This nostalgic old barn in rural Wisconsin was a perfect subject for printing with a high contrast for a "pen and ink / pencil drawing" effect, with a sepia tone.)    Order Image |
CHAMA STATION (1899 Denver & Rio Grande RR station, now part of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR in Chama, New Mexico. Original image on 35mm grainy B&W film printed in highcontrast, then a mild golden color selectively applied to match the color of the station.)    Order Image |
BIG BUGLE (A tracking collar around the neck and a dark background somewhat diminished the photo of this magnificent bull elk with a huge 13-point rack in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park. The forest background was removed to make him stand out clearly and the collar covered by copying a bit of hair over it to create the more dramatic look he deserved.)     Order Image |
